About... The Genesis Theater Project
Created in 2003 at the request of Athens High School students hoping for more musical theater experience, the Genesis Theater Project is now working on its 12th production, with seven performances of Quilters scheduled in the summer of 2019, June 7-16. The last musical performed was "1776" in the summer of 2016. Previous productions include Godspell (two different shows in 2003 and 2011), Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (2004 and 2012), Children of Eden (2005), Pippin (2006), Little Women (2007), The Spitfire Grill (2008), Jane Eyre, the Musical (2009), and The Secret Garden (2015). As the group evolved, more and more adults and children were added, depending on the show. No longer was it just a group for high school students.
The Genesis Theater Project rehearses and performs family-friendly musicals during the summer, in the beautiful 115-year-old sanctuary of Athens First Presbyterian Church (uptown Athens, Ohio, on the corner of Court and Washington streets), using rented lighting and sound equipment, with local actors and singers of all ages. We aim for high standards, and work hard to achieve the best we can. For each production, tickets are available at the door. Performances usually begin at 7:30 PM evenings, and at 2:30 PM on Sunday matinees.
